Atelier
During the third semester of my studies at AMFI, I worked on a project called Atelier. In Atelier, the student is challenged to experiment and explore design and making skills in the broadest sense without pre-conceived ideas.

Through both 2D and 3D experimentation, I developed a silhouette that is simple, yet bold and feminine.

This project, for me, was a very personal reflection of my experience of womanhood, which I believe to be shared by many women around the world.
By using a crinoline-like structure to support the shape of the garment, I not only draw attention to the harsh undergarments that have been used throughout history to manipulate women’s bodies, but also mimic a cage. With this cage, I want to demonstrate the feeling of captivity that lives in many women as they navigate the expectations that are imposed upon them by society. I purposefully chose this silhouette to draw attention away from the parts of the body that are often sexualised, and instead provide the wearer with a garment in which they can, for once, shamelessly indulge in their femininity.
